BREAK OUT THE JACKYL CD’s AND EVERY CHAINSAW YOU OWN PEOPLE! THEM TREES IS COMING!
Wait… You don’t even own one chainsaw? Oh, you horrible bastards. You terrible, awful assholes. Well, welcome to the Irish Blogger Gathering anyways.
It’s TREE WEEK and I’m getting a little excited. Me and the fellas took a giant toke from some space bong and asked a few questions- HOLLA!
Ryan Ritter, Her Loyal Sons: While Stanford’s rushing offense has been struggling this season (ranked 70th nationally), their defense certainly hasn’t (ranked 1st). How do you feel about the Golson-led offense against the Cardinal defensive unit?
I feel good. Hell, I feel C O N F I D E N T. Why? Because you know perfectly well that Brian Kelly has no intention to try and run at Stanford. And to tell you the truth, with Golson and this fairly deep and productive group of receivers, I have no problem with an A I R R A I D against the Cardinal. Our best rushing stats will probably even come from Golson and his bandit like scrambles.
Mike Coffey, NDNation: There seems to be two schools of thought on David Shaw – one saying he’s riding Harbaugh’s remnants and will come down to earth shortly, the other saying he’s an apple sitting very close to the tree and should be able to sustain Stanford’s recent success. To which school do you belong and why?
David Shaw is too stubborn to even fall back down to Earth. That performance in the Rose Bowl was just fantastic. David Shaw was just screaming, “IMMA DO ME WHILE YOU DO YOU” to everyone in Pasadena.
Honestly though, I think this team has regressed every year since Harbaugh, even if it has been little bits here and there. I don’t think David Shaw is a bad coach, but he isn’t even in the same galaxy as Harbaugh in both bat-shit-craziness or football skills, and you got to be great at both to be dominant at a place like Stanford.
Frank Vitovich, UHND: After Torii Hunter’s debut and the the return this week of Amir Carlisle, how do you foresee the Notre Dame wide receiving rotation working out this weekend and beyond?
I see a lot more of the same- with dashes of ULTRA SPICE. It was exciting to see Hunter get some action, and even better that he got the touchdown (SUPER SPIN MOVE ON THE FEET ATHLETIC MOVE SWOON) but I’m more geeked to get Carlisle back, and extremely impatient with the whole DaVaris Daniels situation. I really love our wide receivers this year, and I can’t think of a better group from top to bottom that the Irish have ever had. (Slightly exaggerating because we once had Floyd, Tate, and Rudolph on the same team).
Aaron Horvath, Fighting Irish Athletics: What does it mean to you that Notre Dame was able to overcome 5 turnovers and still thoroughly and soundly defeat an ACC opponent?
That Syracuse was a bad football team and that Maryland sucks too? Any other team with some type of skills would have beat Notre Dame that night by at least a touchdown… but then again, the defense played phenomenally. Notre Dame got lucky because they were able to have kind of a horrible night and still get the win. It does say quite a bit about the talent on this team as compared to the middle of the road type schools, but Notre Dame is wanting more than that merit badge.
Say… DON’T THEY GIVE MERIT BADGES FOR KILLING TREES WITH GASOLINE POWERED TOOLS? Yup, they do.
My question this week for the group and for you Junior Subway Domer Scouts:
The national narrative hasn’t changed much. Notre Dame hasn’t played anyone with a pulse, and big bad Stanford is coming to town as the odds on favorite. The only thing that can change this perception is a win over the Cardinal–or would it? Would an Irish victory over Stanford in the eyes of pollsters and the CFB Playoff committee give more credence to the season thus far? Why does any of this even matter if it doesn’t really matter? Meditate on that.
And during your meditation, you can listen to this:
