The Notre Dame Ramblers. That’s what this season really is. Well, I guess Notre Dame is playing at least half of its games at home, but the other half of games that are “away” games- half of those are in NFL Stadiums as “neutral” sites.
Got all of that? Good, because this barnstorming thing can look wilder than Rumspringa.
Syracuse
Doesn’t it seem like the Irish have played Syracuse quite a bit over the years? This feels like an old series, but this game will be only the 7th time that Notre Dame and Syracuse will have faced one another on the gridiron. Maybe it’s because losses are what we really remember most. This series, although tied up at 3 games a piece, saw Syracuse put its foot on the throat of the Fighting Irish.
Remember that beatdown in 2003, where we saw the Orange run right over the Irish, 38-12? Some dude named Reyes ran for 5 touchdowns. And… of course, that snowy dud of 2008. SNOWBALLS FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY!
I offer you these thoughts that will probably be repeated later in the post:
- Syracuse will be the toughest opponent the Irish will have faced up to this point. Scoff, if you will, but when these two teams face off, it will be a much harder battle than most of you are anticipating.
- This is a “home” game for Syracuse. I hope they wear all orange for the occasion.
- Some former 2 star recruit for Syracuse will have his name called for half of the game. You might vomit, and then cancel your subscription to Rivals.
3 Reasons To Get Excited
- REVENGE!!! No player on Notre Dame’s roster was really even being recruited in 2008, but revenge none the less. 2008 will never be forgotten. Not by me. Never.
- This will be the third straight prime time game for the Irish this season. You will finally perfect your drinking schedule
- If the Irish win, they should be 4-0 and will set themselves up with momentum for a tough October run. YIPPEE!!!!

- I want to be more excited about this game than I actually am. I’m really trying here.
- If you’ve ever had Sunkist & Tanqueray, than you want this game to be played annually with some type of highball glass trophy.
- Syracuse fans are still bitter about the 1987 Heisman Trophy. Don’t EVER say Don McPherson. That’s basically our 1990 Ty Detmer / Raghib Ismail (except ours is much, much, much more legit).
