Just wanted to throw out a few observations and thoughts after the first couple days of spring football for Notre Dame. This might be the "norm" for a lot of what I do this spring.
–> As I mentioned in the opening pressed post; Brian Kelly is obsessed with weight. Perhaps he could get a gig with CVS if this whole coaching thing doesn't work out. At the very least, this attention to detail shows that Kelly has a plan and the balls to execute that plan. He watched Alabama dominate the trenches and made the decision to turn the weight up on our talented big uglies.
–> I'm already putting feelers out there for which player might be this years version of Junior Jabbie; Spring All-Star & Fall Houdini. The early odds favor Amir Carlilse & Mike Heuerman. We will have a better grasp on this in the coming weeks.
–> There were some noticeable jersey number changes, and I have already discussed that matter a few weeks ago. However, there was one change that I didn't see coming. Josh Atkinson changed from #43 (which was his HS number & his father's number when he played for the Oakland Raiders) to #24. This confuses me- and makes me sad. At the current rate of double jersey number ownerships, we may never see the #43 worn by a scholarship player on the field again. Damn.
–> It feels unbelievably good that the quarterback situation is fairly solid. Everett Golson is the starter- END OF STORY. Gunner's exodus means less this year as opposed to next year, when Tommy Rees runs out of eligibility.
–> The most profound thing to come out of day one, was Kelly talking about using more "starters" on special teams. This is music to our ears- right up until Everett Golson tears an ACL on the punt block team. GET READY!
–> There were some noticeable absences on the field, but there was a bigger attendee on the stationary bike. Stephon Tuitt had surgery to repair a "sports hernia" that he apparently got towards the end of the season last year. So, he will be out for a couple of weeks. The good news is that we already know Tuitt is a grizzly bear in human form, and with the graduation of KLM, this will give the staff some closer looks at a few other guys. Gotta look at the positive side of things you guys.
That'll wrap this thing up. Like I said… Look for more of these type of posts this spring. But, if you're like Poot- you ain't reading this anyways. Fuck Poot.
