The Anti-Preview: Boston College. November 19, 2011

notre dame boston college
Welcome to the Anti-Preview on Subway Domer. Folks, the Irish are 7-3 and still have a very slim hope of making it to a BCS game. Even if that doesn’t happen, they could still end the regular season at 9-3, and play possibly Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl for a chance at a 10 win season.

While that all falls a bit short from what we had hoped from this season, the fact that the Champs Sports Bowl has a super awesome Twitter account. Seriously- that makes up for a lot of shit.

Before all that happens, we have…

Boston College. Look, there is no way we can beat around the bush here. Boston College is horrible. I’m not trying to exaggerate, and if you ask any Boston College fan about it- they would probably agree with me. There are 4 easy stats/rankings to look up that tell the tale:

  • 114th in Points Scored (18)
  • 56th in Points Allowed (24.9)
  • 105th in Passing Yards (164.2)
  • 81st in Rushing Yards (133.8)

So, Boston College has a real tough time running the ball, which isn’t good for their passing game and quarterback Chase Rettig. They just don’t score points. On top of that, it forces their defense to play a lot more downs, and as the game wears on the opposing team beats them up. The only game that they really got blown out was a home game against Florida State.

They do have Luke Kuechly. Kuechly will likely win about every defensive award available to him this year. He has something like 982 tackles this season- or somewhere in the neighborhood. He is really, really good. However, I am hearing even more shit about how Notre Dame didn’t offer him- BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. No shit: neither did most of the BCS programs in the country.

sausage apples

What should you be eating? This dish is one of the pure classics when it comes to the Subway Domer Anti-Preview cuisine. Sausage and Fried Apples. There are many, many ways to make this succulent plate of heaven, but I’m going to show you how I make it best.

  • 3 lbs. of Eckrich skinless Sausage
  • 5 Apples (any kind you like bozo)
  • Butter
  • 3 shots of Jack Daniels
  • 1/4 cup of Brown Sugar

Put some butter in a big pan. Lots of butter. Slice up your apples and put them in the pan. Now take a shot of Jack Daniels and put it down your throat. Take the other two shots and the brown sugar and put it in the pan. Fry it all up for about 5 minutes on high. Slice your sausage up in threes and put it in the pan for 5 minutes while stir-frying it all. Take the contents of that pan and put in a crock pot. Heat on low for 2 hours. Serve. Send all thank-yous to my email.

What should you be drinking? Well, if are making the apples and sausage correctly, there should be a nice bottle of Jack Daniels sitting close by to you.  Go ahead and drink some- we won’t judge you. Still, you may want to chase it down with something. And you can never have too much booze. (Not exactly true- BUT YOU GET MY POINT!)

It might as well be award winning. PBR me ASAP!

Irish Stew: This is senior day. Really, that is all that needs to be said. Yes, Notre Dame is pulling out 80,000 green pom poms for the event, and the game itself is against a team that is well known as a spoiler. Still, I have been thinking a lot about these players. This class was the #2 ranked recruiting class according to Rivals. Although they didn’t leave the legacy that either they had hoped or what we demanded, I can’t help but be absolutely thankful. I really do love this team, and this senior class. The guys that are 5th year seniors have seen Notre Dame at the absolute lowest point, and I smile knowing that they are now leaving the program in much better shape than it was. Thank-you to all of those seniors, and I hope much more is in store for you throughout your lives.

What scares the shit out of me? Senior Day. Although Notre Dame exorcised the demons of Senior Day with a big win over Utah last year, we are still not all that far removed from the Syracuse and UConn losses in the previous two years.  At least BC has been long gone from the Big East. We have a chance to not do this bullshit:

michael floydOffensive MVP: Michael Floyd. Floyd is the best wide receiver to ever attend Notre Dame. Don’t even try to throw another name into the mix. Not with me. Not when it comes to Michael Floyd. He should leave Notre Dame with about every single record a WR can have, and he will stand alone at 3rd place ALL-TIME in the TD department behind only Allen Pinkett and Autry Denson. I have a gut feeling that Floyd is going to play out of his damn mind on Saturday. 150+ and 2 TD’s– if not more. I’m serious. Michael Floyd is life.

Defensive MVP: Ethan Johnson. Let’s get another senior into the mix here. Ethan has been nothing but solid throughout his entire Notre Dame career. It’s a god damn shame that Ethan was slowed down this year with an injury. Despite all of the talent behind him, he is still great. Against a very uncharacteristically bad Boston College offensive line, Ethan will help stuff the run game and he will get to the eating for himself. Look for multiple tackles for loss with a sack or two mixed in.

Something else to watch for on Saturday… Quite honestly I want to see how much closer we get to this:

For 1,000-yard seasons, Cierre Wood needs 93, Jonas Gray needs 270 and Michael Floyd needs 78. Rees needs 608 for 3,000 passing.Sun Nov 13 21:14:08 via TweetDeck

notre dame boston collegeIs there a rivalry trophy for this game?
God damn right. TWO OF THEM. You can see Chris Crane and company in the image on the right holding both of the trophies after a victory over Notre Dame.

It is the only game in college football (that I know of) that involves two rivalry trophies.

We own them both. Tell me again why these won’t be on the field for our PLAYERS Saturday?

At the end of the day… Notre Dame stays focused at the task at hand because Brian Kelly will have it no other way. There will be a lot of emotion, and there may be some sloppy play in the beginning of the game. However, Notre dame will rise up and lay an absolute ass-whooping to help its small chance of landing in the BCS. IRISH WIN 52-17.
