This finalizes what almost all of us thought would happen- Floyd returns:
One of the things that struck me was that Floyd said that he had to hang out with a better crowd. Does this crowd include any current or recent Irish players? I really don’t know, and I don’t want to speculate too much, but I have seen a lot of pictures with Jonas Gray, Deion Walker, and Floyd together. I’m not saying anything, but it does make me wonder.
Besides all of that, there is a real “uproar” nationally about this. Kelly said he doesn’t care about the perception of it, and he is more concerned in turning a persons life around. Personally, I’m glad all of this is behind us and Floyd. Yes, Notre Dame is changing the way they discipline athletes and ordinary students. Welcome to the new Millennium ND. This doesn’t mean that ND is “selling its soul.” That’s a pretty serious statement. Something boarderline evil would have to be going on, and that just isn’t the case.
Notre Dame wants its football team to be able to compete at an elite level. That’s why the changes have happened. It starts at the top of the administration with Jenkins down through Res Life and then to the head coach. Draconian measures are not necessary anymore.
This will cause some to cry foul against ND for changing its values. Some alumni and most of the outside world will see this as that, “seeling its soul” thing. It will pass. For me, I have always made it a point to try and stay away from calling other athletes out at other schools for mistakes like this. Shooting an AK-47 calls for some shit to get thrown that way, but to cry foul at kids for making mistakes as young adults would be hypocritical on my end. I made plenty of the same mistakes at that age, and that is the biggest reason why I see this whole Floyd thing as a positive for the University.
Help these kids. Don’t try to set an example- IT DOESN’T WORK.
Really, that’s all I am going to say on the subject. It is time to move forward; figuratively and literally. The season is upon us, and we have the best wide receiver in college football back on the roster…
