Brian Kelly: Tommy Rees Is 12-2 As A Starter

Brian Kelly spoke to the media after Notre Dame’s 16-14 victory over the Boston College eagles. Week after week, Kelly gets the same type of questions about Rees and his “struggles.” Kelly’s response, most of the time, is whatever Tommy’s record is. I think it is just as obvious to Kelly as it is to the rest of us, that Tommy is holding back this offense.

His inability to run AT ALL is seriously hurting the team. How many times can we watch the opposing defense drop back 7 or 8 players in a smothering zone while our line gives Tommy all day to throw… and then nothing. Brian Kelly sees the yards in front of Tommy that are there if Rees just tucks the ball and runs- but he can’t. Tommy just isn’t mobile enough, or at all.

What is Kelly supposed to say? How is supposed to answer the media and the critics when he gets asked why Rees just doesn’t seem right? Rees is the only option we TRULY have right now. For better or worse, this is the bed Kelly made in week 1. There is no other way to defend Tommy. He is 12-2 as a starter. How many more starts will he have? That’s the real question.
