Friends, sorry about the lack of posting this week. There are a lot of truly wonderful things going on at the home front, and I have been unable to really sit down and run the day to day operations at Subway Domer.
With that said, I doubt that many of you are pulling your hair out of your skull in anticipation of what The Subway Domer is going to post next (the word, “shit” comes to mind). But, seeing as I would like to keep things as documenical (new word) as possible, I am offering you a peace pipe full of of “medicine,” to calm yoself. Basically, this is a very edited, and briefed, makeup post for this week up to date.
Read on, and stop sending me you hate mail bitches…
Bagpipe Monday
In all honesty, the Navy game couldn’t come at a worse time for the Irish. Over the past few years, Fighting Irish players seemed to get injured in bunches while playing the Midshipmen. For answers, maybe we should ask Corwin Brown his opinions? It was Brown, who after decades of silence from opposing coaches and players, finally came out and said that Navy played dirty. He was talking about the chop blocks and things of that nature. So, with that in mind, we must keep a keen eye on the field this Saturday as Notre Dame fields about half of its 2nd string in place of the normal starters that have already caught the injury bug. Pray for Michael Floyd.
Don’t forget to vote in this weeks poll (which is an extension from last years poll) and enjoy the pipes (which are less pipes and more folk… but it has a “naval” theme, so deal with it!).
The Western Michigan Hangover
To be fair to myself, I did get a small piece up on the site Sunday about Eifert and Goodman, and the continual streak of no 100 yard rushing games for our running backs. However, I still need to make my voice heard on a few other… bulletpoints:
- Michael Floyd is so close to BLOWING UP. After a slow start to the season with some costly fumbles and drops, Floyd is turning back into the WR we have come to worship. Against WMU, he wasn’t challenged much as he hauled in 3 TD’s against the Broncos. He did that with a bum hamstring (enough with the HAMSTRINGS) and with his partner on the other side out for most of the game (Riddick). Floyd is doing everything right, and if he stays healthy he should get himself back into a position of scaring the shit out of all of us by leaning more and more into leaving early for the NFL Draft.
- Manti Te’o is just raping people like George Lucas and Steven Spielberg rape people with their CGI. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time that Notre Dame had a linebacker that just straight murdered people. To make things better, he is playing alongside a rapidly improving and staunch hitter in his own right, Carlo Calabrese. Manti does have a few issues to clean up in his pass defense, but he still does a nice job against all types of screens and against crossing routes. Fighting off the curls and quick slants still is required reading.
- Speaking of pass defense; Notre Dame is still very, very soft against the pass in the middle of the zone. Western Michigan, and just about every team we have played this year, produced a lot of yards by going to the middle of the field for their aerial yards. Sometimes it is difficult (sometimes) to actually tell who has what zone (cough, cough) but common sense says it is usually the linebackers (responsibility is key). Adjustments must be made before Utah and U$C.
- If you are anything like me, you were probably throwing a hissy-fit during the first half over the lack of production in the run game, and the lack of protection for Crist. In fact, I felt like a bitch after reviewing my Tweets. Luckily, for my sake, things got much better in the second half. Cierre Wood started to really look like the back we all hoped he would be, and was a sooooo close to getting over the century mark. It was also nice to see Hughes get some quality carries. I have loved the way Allen has played this year, but the Wood and Hughes combo looked like the running game we were all hoping for this season… in the 2nd half… with a lead…. against WMU.
I’ll stop bragging it up. I could really throw on some negative shit, but since it is already Wednesday- I’ll let it slide for another week. Moving on…

That is the ballot I turned in for the Blogpoll top 25. There is a theme here. Can you recognize it? BTW- The minute that I see a 3 loss team sneak into the top 25 in the traditional polls is the moment I rank ND at #25. You have been warned. And while we are on the Blogpoll topic… Here is the actual Top 25 from the Blogpoll:

Whew! That’s about it. I could go on and on about some injuries… but I’ll keep that for later. Look for a more normal posting schedule as things simmer down for me, but i certainly can’t promise you anything. The Anti-Preview looks to be on schedule- and I guess that is all that really matters to you drunk, hungry bastards. Go Irish!
