Welcome to a special edition of Bagpipe Monday. Why is it so special? Not much really, rather a celebration of laziness as I didn’t post a BM this morning, and now we have actual Notre Dame news to cover.
Cam McDaniel is Irish. The running back from Texas committed to Notre Dame for the 2011 season shortly after Irish coaches visited and offered the 3 star prospect. Cool. McDaniel is expected to play slot receiver for the Irish.
No disrespect intended for Young Cam (that may be a rappers name someday) but I am taking a break from the normal recruiting “commitment” posts, until I sort some things out. What kind of things? I’m not sure exactly, but my faith in a 17-18 year olds word has reached the breaking point. I don’t want to slam these kids too hard, as the recruiting business is a dark and nasty venture. Kids decommit all the time and go elsewhere. Even the bloody Irish are known for talking a kid out of a commitment and getting the kid to head to South Bend. It’s a part of the game. In fact, while Notre dame was down talking with Cam McDaniel, they also extended an offer to Cam McDaniels teamate, CB Bennett Okotcha. Okatcha has already given a verbal commitment to Wisconsin.
So maybe i’ll get back in the groove after an Ishaq Williams commitment, or a Christian French commitment- whatever. I will still have the annual Subway Domer Recruiting Spectacular shortly after signing day, and this year promises to be a doozy.
