VICTORY: Notre Dame 30, Georgia Tech 22

Notre Dame won an impressive victory over Georgia Tech, 30-22 despite the small point differential. CJ Prosise busted through the line for a 91 yard touchdown run that ended up being the difference as it put the Irish ahead 30-7 late in the fourth quarter.

Prosise would finish the day with 198 yards on 22 carries and 3 touchdowns, while Will Fuller caught another touchdown on his way to a 130 yard day. All of this was done during DeShone Kizer’s first start at quarterback for Notre Dame.

And while all of that was impressive, it was Notre Dame’s defense and the way the dominated the Georgia Tech triple-option attack. The Yellow Jackets only ran for 214 yards, and only came up with 7 points after coming off two games of astronomical yards on the ground and about 75 points per game.

Instead of Georgia Tech dictating the flow of the game, as they are known to do, it was the Irish defense and guys like Drue Tranquill, Sheldon Day, Jaylon Smith, Elijah Shumate and others, choking off the run and swarming to end any Yellow Jacket advancement.

It was beautiful.

It was vindication for an Irish defense that took a bunch of criticism after last weeks performance on the road against Virginia. There was also a whole lot of vindication for Brian VanGorder as everyone loved telling that story about Paul Johnson wanting to kick BVG’s ass.

There was a different foot up a different ass today and now Notre Dame is sitting at 3-0.
