The Air Force Hangover

notre dame
So, things have been moving pretty slowly on the site. No way should these Hangover posts be posted on a late Tuesday / early Wednesday morning. that’s my bad. I’m going to be “tweaking” a lot of things on the site in the upcoming months, and some of those “tweaks” include changes with the way these regular posts are written. So, there might be some weirdness for a bit.

Now… on to your Hangover:

The Top 5

  • Jonas Gray averaged 9.9 yards per carry. He may have only ended up with 69 yards, but he also notched a couple of touchdowns as well. Gray has been insanely surprising this year- especially after the South Florida game. Gray is on pace to break George Gipp’s record for yards per carry( 8.1 ).
  • Andrew Hendrix was the leading rusher for the game. Yes, that includes Air Force too. The highlight, of course, was his 78 yard sprint that ended up 2 yards short of a sixer. The best part was just seeing that Kelly is developing his quarterbacks. Hendrix looked good in his debut with his small package of plays in hand as he completed all 4 of his pass attempts for 33 yards, and rushed the ball 6 times for 111 yards. Even if you took his long run and 2 QB sneak attempts away, he ran the ball 3 other times for 33 yards. I’ll take that.
  • Jamoris Slaughter had HUGE game. Let’s see, he had a forced fumble, a gorgeous interception, a pass break-up that showed some really good coverage skills, and he had 6 tackles. Jamoris played a lot of snaps basically as a linebacker. It is part of the defensive plan against option teams. Honestly, he did fantastic, and I love giving this kid credit.
  • Aaron Lynch and Stephon Tuitt are beasts. They weren’t kidding. Notre Dame decided to use Lynch and Tuitt in a variety of ways on Saturday, but mainly they put the two frosh on the interior of the line. Both kids are physically more like seniors, and le’s face it- they’re just plain ole nasty as all fuck. They’re really good, and they’re presence on the field was both needed to win, and needed to further develop these freshman phenoms.
  • Robby Toma finally got his. Against Purdue last week, Toma had a chance to score a TD, but was overthrown by Tommy Rees. This week, the cows came home. Toma caught a 10 yard pass for TD, and the celebration from his teammates on the sidelines was of an epic nature. The guys on this team love Robby Toma, and the fans do too. Hopefully Toma can give us more, if the coaches JUST GIVE US TOMA!

HEADBUTTS

  • The wide receiving Triumvirate of Floyd, Riddick, and Eifert. All three had similar numbers as they combined for 22 receptions for 242 yards. Floyd’s TD was completely legit, insane, and almost as good as a pound of bacon.
  • Kyle Brindza was BOOMING his kickoffs. He had 3 touchbacks Saturday- which is three more than what the Irish had in the past decade (not really, but it’s probably close).

Swift Kick To The Nuts

  • Cheapshoting motherfuckers. Do not vomit out the normal company line about the academies. Just because they are serving our country, doesn’t mean they are saints. That game had a number of low hits at the knees from behind- and far, far away from the play. That my friends is bullshit.
  • Cierre Wood. Humor me for a moment… this is to set him straight a little bit. I saw more dancing in the hole Saturday than I care to see from Cierre. What has made him soooo good this season was that he planted his foot and exploded. It’s hard to blow a guy any shit when he carries the rock 10 times for 66 yards and a TD, but I saw more shake than bake- and I’m hungry.

After all of that, Notre Dame won the game 59-33 in a game that wasn’t nearly as close. The Irish gave up 2 garbage TD’s once the score got to be 59-19. That’s dominance. Notre Dame should have kicked the shit out of AFA, and they did. So why are we all making so much of a big deal out of this? Because we haven’t seen this kind of play since the days of Holtz. Total dominance- not just in this game, but during this 4 game turn around after beating themselves twice (which Lou’s teams were known to do from time to time).

Enjoy this win one more day, and then get your mind right. U$C is coming. Kiffin is coming. Let’s greet those Southern Cal pussies with a hard punch in the mouth.

GO IRISH!
