Welcome to another sweet-ass edition of the Irish Blogger Gathering on Subway Domer. This week, the gathering is hosted by the fellas from Rakes of Mallow. Be sure to check them out, and the other IBG posts from the rest of the Brotherhood.
Let’s get this IBG rolling…
1) Saturday’s result against Utah was a very pleasant surprise, but an unexpected one, to say the least. What was the biggest positive you took from the win over the Utes, and what concerns you most as the Irish head into their final two games of the regular season?
Shit, what doesn’t concern me? I have evolved into the paranoid fan over the last few years. On the surface, I am calm and confident, but on the inside- I’m breaking shit all lover the place from the anxiety. (Alright, I do that anyways… but you get the point).
Basically, I am worried that the Irish won’t continue to play as physical as they just did this past Saturday. Can they just squash Army’s smaller and slower team? Can they go out to LA and punch those bitches in the mouth?
I hope so, because that is the only way this team is going to win both of those games.
2) The Irish will have to take a completely different approach against the Army option than they did against the Navy attack a few weeks ago. Who do you see playing the biggest role in slowing down the Black Knight attack? Who will be the big performer on offense?
The biggest role should be played by none other than Bob Diaco. He has to let this defense loose. Against Navy, he had them doing to much cute shit. As long as he has the defense playing assignment football that concentrates at attacking, rather than defending, than the defense will be successful.
I know who I want to say will be the biggest performer on offense, but I’m just not sure if he is ready… fuck it. Cierre Wood. While Jonas Gray got a lot of accolades after his performance during the Utah game, Wood was used as the primary back for a vast majority of the game. Something is whispering in my ear that Wood is going to have several long touchdown runs Saturday night.
Guess that was just Domer.mq whispering for me to put a lid on it… but regardless…
3) Should Notre Dame win one of their final two games, they’ll likely be going bowling. There are a lot of tie-ins that may or may not be fulfilled from other conferences that will likely end up deciding their postseason fate, but what bowl do you see the Irish playing in?
I might as well just come out and say it. I mean, my readers wouldn’t expect anything less from me, right? Yep. They know that I am a glass is overflowing kind of guy, even when the cup is tilted to the side.
Notre Dame will win their final two games and play in the Champs Sports Bowl, probably against either Miami or Florida State. Let the shit-talking BEGIN!
4) This isn’t a question any of us thought would be an issue at the start of the season, but who do you see as Notre Dame’s starting quarterback against South Florida next year?
Dayne Crist will start the season for the Irish. I have little doubt about that… or do I? What if Tommy Rees beats Army, BEATS U$C, and then wins the aforementioned bowl game against one of the Florida schools? What then?!
Well, Dayne probably won’t be 100% for spring ball, and come fall camp, Rees would have had the 3 biggest wins of the 2010 season, a full spring camp, and he has been in the Brian Kelly system for just as long as Crist.
It will be interesting, but I just don’t see Crist giving up his spot, or Kelly giving up on Crist. I’m going to end this question with a massive I’LL WAIT UNTIL MAY TO MAKE THAT DECISION.
5) We’re all very excited for Saturday night at Yankee Stadium, which is a nice turn towards some pretty exciting neutral site games (Miami at Soldier Field, Arizona State at Cowboys Stadium) after a rather lackluster start (Washington State in San Antonio). What are three neutral site games you’d like to see down the road?
Ohio State in Indianapolis (Lucas Oil Field)
- This is one of those games that could be huge if it was played annually, or semi-annually. It would be an amazing venue.
Tennessee at Bristol Motor Speedway
- There have been rumors for years that this exact game was being pushed by the racetracks owner to both schools. Why would it be so awesome? Probably because of the estimated 200,000 fans that would be able to attend. Holy shit.
Boston College in Rome, Italy (With a Papal Audience)
- If this game is going to be dubbed, “The Holy War,” then we better get serious and play a game in front of the Pontiff himself. Let’s settle this Holy Cross VS. Jesuit thing pronto. (BTW- It’s too bad there isn’t a Lutheran college that plays Div. 1-A football, then there could be a game in Germany, and we could call it The Reformation Bowl… just sayin.)
