Everett Golson Is The Piano Man

On Saturday May 25th, 2013 I joined the Irish nation in hearing the news of Everett Golson's (un)availability for the 2013 Notre Dame Football season and around the same time I also heard Billy Joel's iconic hit "Piano Man" come on at the bar. Golson being somewhat of a piano prodigy, it led me towards rewording the lyrics to reflect the night when Notre Dame Football 2013 changed from "BCS or Bust!" to "This is why we can't have nice things…". I shared a few of the lines on Twitter but here is the full version of Everett Golson Is The Piano Man song.

Thanks to Her Loyal Sons & @IrishElvis for adding the tweets into their now legendary Twitter Summary (aptly titled "ND Football QB Crisis). You can find Billy Joel's original Piano Man lyrics here for comparison purposes.

*(note: Tommy Rees had tweeted earlier that day he was vacationing in California. Rees is from Illinois)

It's 11 o'clock on a Saturday
The ND Twitter crowd shuffles in
There's old men tweeting next me
Reminiscing on that USC win

He says, "Son, can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When Ara wore Blue & Gold clothes."

la la la, di da da
La la, di di da da dum

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got ND feeling uptight

Now Tommy in Cali is a friend of ours*
Once had too many drinks for free
And he's quick with a read though lacking speed
But there's some place that he'd rather be

He says, "Golson, I believe this is killing me."
As his smile ran away from his face
"Well I'm sure that I could be QB1
If I could get you out of this place"

Oh, la la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum

And the ND coach will practice politics
As the Irish fans slowly gets stoned
Yes, they're sharing tweets they call loneliness
But it's better than drinkin' alone

Now Malik Zaire is a QB novice
Who hasn’t had time to grow
And he's talkin' with Hendrix, whose arm still rips
but never had time for a show

A pretty big Twitter crowd for a Saturday
And the yakking heads tell us to frown
They know that it's our QB they'd be comin' to see
When trekking to the Bend from their town.

And the Twitter news, it spreads like a fire
And our keyboards they smell like a beer
And fans sit at the bar, lamenting our star
And say, "Man, how did Kelly bring us here?”

Oh, la la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum

Sing us a song you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well we're all in the mood for a melody
and you got ND feeling uptight!
