The Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, which will be played on December 30th at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee, will pit the LSU Tigers (8-4), who finished 23rd in the last AP Poll, against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-5). Despite winning eight games, LSU finished just 2-4 in SEC West play. LSU won its last game of the regular in College Station over Texas A&M, 23-17. As a team, LSU rushed for 384 yards and one touchdown. Freshman running back Leonard Fournette rushed for 146 yards while dual-threat quarterback Anthony Jennings rushed for 119 yards. As a team, LSU averaged 220 rushing yards per game, which was the 29th highest mark in College Football. Fournette rushed for 891 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while Jennings threw for 1,460 yards and ten touchdowns. LSU is allowing just 16.4 points per game which is the third best mark in College Football. While the Music City Bowl isn’t the ideal bowl for LSU fans, fans will still pay top ticket prices to watch LSU face Notre Dame.
According to TiqIQ, the secondary market average price for Music City Bowl tickets is currently $94.02 on the secondary market while the get-in price for the game is $17. The game is 43% above the average price for last season’s Music City Bowl between Ole Miss and Georgia Tech.
Notre Dame won six straight games to start their season, but lost five of their last six games to finish at a disappoint 7-5 mark. Notre Dame’s season began to unravel after a controversial 31-28 road loss to Florida State. Notre Dame was able to bounce back in the following week to defeat Navy, 49-39, but lost four straight games heading into this match-up. Notre Dame was embarrassed in its last regular season game at USC. USC routed Notre Dame, 49-14 as Notre Dame’s pass defense gave up 372 passing yards and six touchdowns. Notre Dame’s defense gave way to 205 rushing yards which may be a problem against LSU’s potent rushing attack.
While fans can expect to pay top prices to attend the Music City Bowl, LSU and Notre Dame will square off for the first time since the 2007 Sugar Bowl when LSU won, 41-13. LSU and Notre Dame have split the all-time series, 5-5. Expect a spirited effort from two of the top programs in College Football.
